CONFIRMATION CRITERIA

Each student must get 300 points in order to be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Fall. As you can see, if each student attends Mass, the Easter Tridiium, and all the classes, does all the assignments, and the service projects, he/she will receive 350 points. Class attendance is very important because we only meet 10 times, and a great deal of information is discussed in these few classes. We realize that schedules do sometimes conflict, but we hope that each student makes every effort to attend each and every class.

Mass attendance goes without saying. This is a major part of who we are as Catholic Christians: we are Eucharistic people, people who come together for Liturgy. It is hoped that weekly mass attendance will become the norm for all Confirmation candidates. Please keep track of mass attendance on sheet provided.

Written papers and service projects are an important part of this program. It will be the students' responsibility to hand in papers and sign up for service projects.

Classes: 10 at 10 points each 100 points

Masses: 5 points for each Mass marked on sheet 50 points

Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday: 50 points

Written reports 10 at 10 points each 100 points

Service projects: At least 5 Hours 50 points

350 points

There are two service projects that the class will do together: a pancake breakfast, and Walk for Hunger, but you should also plan to do an activity of your own choice. If you are already doing a service project or have an idea for one, please fill out the form attached. Here are some ideas you might like to try:

Be an assistant at a religion class

Take an ornament from our Christmas tree and buy a gift.

Help at Christmas Fair (2 Hours) Saturday, December 2

Bring in 10 food items for the East Haven Food Pantry

Make a dessert for the homeless shelter the 1st Friday of the month

Help at card party in March. Date to be announced.

Be a Lector at Mass

Help at Home Front Day, Saturday, May 5

All these activities are ways to strengthen your faith and come to know God better. If you only see the activity as points to "get " and not as part of a process to grow, then all will be meaningless. I encourage you to accept this process as an act love between you and your God in Heaven who loves you very much and wants to be near you always.
